January 17th, 2004. A 17 degree winter Saturday. Sudbury,
MA.
At 1pm, Mike DiBari and the band arrived at Club 39, my basement project studio, for a live recording session. Greg Loughman recorded with just one mic aimed at the F hole, and Mike Connors played the studio '67 Slingerland's. Takako came armed with her digital camera to visually record the event. The room was charged with a very relaxed and pleasant vibe.
Mike set up his amp and guitar and said, "Let's do it."
We did a quick sound check, got levels, and started rolling....everything live. One take of each tune. No overdubs, no
punches...
I find something inherently thrilling...and dangerous about recording live in the studio. It takes courage and confidence. Fearlessness. I always compare it to watching Karl Wallenda, the great tightrope walker who worked without a net! Just one slip and.....
What you hear on this disc is the exact live mix I heard in the control room. Real music. A pleasure to record, a delight to be there as it happened!
